When I Was...

...a younger man I had many dreams. When I was in my late teens I wanted to be a professional tennis player and travel the world. But that takes money and we didn't have any. When I finally graduated from college I wanted to teach philosophy at Notre Dame. That took way more smarts than I have. When I got accepted to law school I was going to be the next F. Lee Bailey. When I got married that one shit the bed as well. As with most things it comes down to money and moral decisions. I could have gone to law school if I would have gotten a divorce and not seen the birth of my first son. I could have been a tennis player if I whored myself out to lonely housewives. I could have gone to ND if I'd asked for a particular favor from my college prez, a graduate of said institution. I chose none of them.

But, in whatever time I have left, I would like to accomplish one. Living on a houseboat. I've always loved the water, and how kewl would it be to go home and hear the water slapping the side of your house and the cool breeze as you sit on the deck sipping a glass of Merlot. Sadly, my sons are taking their sweet time getting through college, and since I still send them money so they can have at least a modicum of a sensible life, I remain in my dregs of an apartment. Like I said, it's about money and moral choices. But if anyone knows anything about renting a house boat, lemme know. Gotta have power and hi-speed internet for work purposes. Other than that, I can live in a box.
